The Background
My client is a train driver and local councillor. His loan size was £60k and he wanted an interest only re-mortgage, secured against a property price of £400k.
A couple of times NatWest had said the loan couldn’t be done. Firstly, because it was unaffordable at £61352. So, we reduced the loan size to £61k! Secondly, his income wasn’t above the £75k needed for their interest only criteria - Nat West had looked at his first wage slip and not at the most recent one that showed his pay rise. This combined with his very regular overtime and a BTL rental income got him over the required income. To be fair, each time I was able to call NatWest and discuss changes or ask them to review the documents I had sent differently. And each time they did. In the end, we secured the deal he needed.
